Intricate gold and silver utensils and ornaments are produced in Bhutan for both ceremonial and daily use. Silver and gold smith forms a small community of craftsmen who produce a range of wares like cups and vases, offering bowls and butter lamps, swords and scabbards. Jewelry like brooches, bracelets, ear rings, necklaces and clasps that hold up the women’s dress are very popular.
Gold and silver ornaments are sometimes presented as gifts on special occasion. Most popular among these are elaborate betel nut containers.
